Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course focuses on the mobility of texts, images, materials, and objects in the Islamic world and beyond. It investigates connectivity and motion across maritime and land routes, treating the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean as binders rather than barriers. It offers case studies on translation efforts, transfer of images, adoption of styles, supply of raw materials, circulation of merchandise, and travel of people across Southern Europe, North Africa, East Africa, Middle East, and Central, South, and Southeast Asia. The course aims to introduce students to mobilities paradigm and equip them with skills to examine continuity and change in Islamic art and architecture.
