Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course focusses on late medieval buildings and their individual parts, such as building elements and building forms. The appearance of the formal creations, the artistic activities of the master builders and stonemasons as well as real-life practical aspects of building are examined.
The course is based on a theoretical and a practical part. Various methods of analysis and approaches are discussed which have been and are still used in architectural research for the interpretation of buildings. The practical implementation (practical example) takes place in the on-site observation of late medieval sacred buildings in Vienna.
Students deepen the specialized knowledge gained in their previous studies.
