Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Through the study of 10 key texts on the subject, this course will explore digital-born artwork from the 21st century. Students will gain an insight into the digital contemporary art discourse and expand their knowledge of the relevant artists and artworks. Class discussion and reading assignments will play a central part in the course.
Alongside the art historical content, we will focus on academic writing in English. Students will have the opportunity to workshop their written work and explore the specificities of English art historical writing. Because of these aims, papers will only be acceppted in English.

Assessment and permitted materials

- active participation in discussions
- weekly reading assignments
- In-depth study in the form of a written paper (15,000-20,000 characters continuous text).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement:
- Compulsory attendance. In case of absence due to illness or exceptional family situation, written proof must be submitted.
- For a positive completion of the course, all partial performances must be achieved.

Assessment Criteria:
- Participation in Class Discussions 20%
- Weekly writing assignments 20%
- Final Paper 60%

Grading scale:
1 (very good) 100-90 points; 2 (good) 89-81 points; 3 (satisfactory) 80-71 points; 4 (sufficient) 70-61 points; 5 (insufficient) 60-0 points.
