Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This exercise treats portraiture in Indian and Tibetan Buddhist art. Depictions of the Buddha in aniconic and human form and depictions of members of the Buddhist community, like arhats, monks, nuns or donors shall be regarded. Thus it shall be seen in which way portraiture occurs in Buddhist art.
Assessment and permitted materials
regular attendance, active participation at discussions, one presentation of a selected topic of 15-20 minutes as well as a 3-5 pages long written summary.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Using the theme of the exersice as a starting point students shall get an insight into Buddhist art and train correct scientific working.
Examination topics
After a general introduction into the theme special topics will be presented and discussed within students' presentations.
Reading list
Da ein Großteil der Literatur aus dem Englischen stammt, werden zumindest passive Englischkenntnisse vorausgesetzt. Am Anfang des Semesters wird ein Handapparat in der Bibliothek des Instituts aufgestellt. Relevante Artikel werden über die E-learning Plattform moodle (https://moodle.univie.ac.at/) zur Verfügung gestellt.
