Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The seminar will trace various forms of light staging in late medieval and early modern painting. The focus will be on approaches to material, production and reception aesthetics on the one hand, and on the other on the extent to which the differentiated artistic explorations of light reflect the theories of light of the time. Topics will range - among others - from gold ground and early Netherlandish oil painting to the chiaroscuro of Caravaggio and Rembrandt.
