Aims, contents and method of the course

The lectures discuss questions and new directions in current medieval art history. The term medieval image culture refers to a contextual consideration of works of art as media in view of their producers and recipients as well as their original location. The analysis of the "perception contract" between makers of art and audience shall be enlighted by considering the background of the commission and its patron.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The lectures aim to introduce to approaches in recent scholarship and allow students to participate and engage in topical discourses on medieval art.

Examination topics

All methods of the field art history as well as interdisciplinary attempts form the basis of the lecture.
