Aims, contents and method of the course

This course focuses on a series of major cave temple complexes in Central Asia and China, ranging from Bamiyan to Kizil to Mogao and Longmen, investigating the development of religious imagery and iconography, as well as the roles of patronage and cultural exchange in formation of these sacred sites.
