Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar will deal with the now obsolete medium of video, which has been dissolved in digital technology. We will discuss its history, with its specific technical properties and aesthetic qualities, as well as its distribution and presentation forms. In the first part of the seminar, selected key texts on the history and theory of video art will be discussed in order to build a broad basis for the subsequent presentations on individual artworks. The guiding question of the seminar is, to what extent do the historical forms and conventions of video art live on in today's digital art production? To what extent do the media properties of the video structure the forms of appearance, distribution and reception of today's digital "video" installations?
