The topic of the study project is the cultural analysis of the "Capital of Culture Bad Ischl/Salzkammergut" (2024). The popularity and design of the EU title currently dominates the Austrian media, visual worlds and events not only in the Salzkammergut. The EE/EKW institutes in Austria have been conducting ethnographic research into this process since 2021. Based on the sources and findings generated in the process, the study project will explore issues relating to the history and regional identity of the Salzkammergut as well as the concept and conflicts of the KHS in greater depth and present them in a joint product.
As a result of the study project, the design and realisation of a "theme path" is under discussion. In this way, the study project aims to communicate science to a broad public (third mission) and contributes to a topic of regional identity construction in the context of the EU that is highly present in the media from a cultural studies perspective.
