Aims, contents and method of the course

The lecture on History of Ornament is supposed to offer orientation to students in the field. The main goal of the lecture is to give a well founded outline on the development of European ornament from the Medievals up to the 20th century. The students should learn to use the knowledge about ornament as a basic means when dealing with Decorative Arts and when working as an art historian for preservation and buidling research when clarifying an object¿s date and provenance. The lectures also focus on the history and meaning of the word ornament in art theory.
