Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This case study investigates the connection between art and activism in Latin America. We will look at the multiple forms of art related to social, political, and cultural activism in the 20th and 21st centuries. We will look at the respective historical, cultural, and (geo)political contexts that gave rise to the particular artwork. From muralism to happenings to social media performances, we will explore the scope and potential impact of artistic expression under the sign of social change in Latin America.Through intensive study of an art historical topic, students have expanded and consolidated the specialist knowledge, working techniques and intellectual skills they have acquired to date. They are able to independently gain an overview of the relevant specialist literature and to critically receive it. They have begun to engage in the art historical research process orally and in writing.
