Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course focuses on chapels in Viennese churches (including the Carmelite, St. Michael's and Franciscan churches) and their artistic decoration. The participants' task is to analyze the different facets of the chapel decoration (stucco, frescoes, sculptures, altarpieces, etc.) and to work out formal and content-related relationships between these aspects. The key question here is: were the chapel decorations created as an intended "bel composto" or are they rather the arbitrary product of coincidences?
The results of the research will be included in the UNIDAM image database and thus enhance a current photo campaign by the Institute of Art History.
