Übung S2018, Dr Mattia Guidetti
Exhibiting Islamic art: past experiences, current practices
Wednesday, 16-17.30
The course aims at providing students with the resources in order to critically reflect on the different modalities of exhibiting Islamic art. It will offer an overview of previous museum experiences, turning points in exhibiting history, and current discussions on how to deal with Islamic art in a museum context. Furthermore, the course will offer students the possibility to develop ideas for and contribute to the installation of a forthcoming photographical exhibition that will be organized at the Institute (09.2018-11.2018) on the theme of the presence of Islamic art in Vienna. Students will get familiar with both practical and more theoretical issues related to the organization of an exhibition. Visits to museums and collections in Vienna will also be part of the program of the course.
