In this course, students will explore these aspects with emphasis on monuments built and decorated in Late Antiquity by describing and comparing, with the help of images, different mosaics (Rome, Ravenna, Poreč, Hosios David, Sinai, Constantinople etc.). In the first part (weekly meetings from October to early November) students will read a selection of texts and learn how to approach the description of apse mosaics in order to create a common basis for discussions. The second part of the course will take place with individual presentations. Between the two parts, the sessions will serve to prepare individual steps for the preparation of these papers and to discuss them together (literature research, structure, synopsis).
