Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course is a continuous assessment Lektüre that will include an introduction to the general topic “Late Latin” and will cover a broad range of different Late Antique Latin texts. Students will become acquainted with some of the special tools necessary to explore beyond the “safe” 1st C. CE. By the end of the course we will have read a good selection of interesting texts, both typical and atypical.

Assessment and permitted materials

After the general introduction, every week will have a different topic and a different reading that will be made available in advance on Moodle. Students will be expected to prepare the readings carefully, to be able to translate them, and to answer grammatical questions (parsing = Bestimmung), and study the content of the texts and contextualize them in literary history.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The class will be assessed on the basis of classwork (40% of the grade) and of a final exam (60% of the grade). The final exam (in praesentia) will be in multiple choice-multiple answer format and will cover all the readings studied in the course.

Examination topics
