Aims, contents and method of the course

In Plautus' Amphitruo wird die Gattung der Ehebruchs- und Verwechslungskomödie auf einen mythologischen, ursprünglich tragischen Stoff übertragen: die Verführung der Alkmene durch Zeus in Gestalt ihres Mannes Amphitryon. Elemente der Tragödie verbinden sich hier mit Techniken zur Erzeugung von Komik, die sich auch in anderen Formen heiterer Literatur- und Bühnenkunst wie Satire und Stegreifspiel finden lassen. Im Laufe des Seminars soll die Komödie weitgehend im Original gelesen und interpretiert werden. Wir werfen ferner einen Blick auf motivisch verwandte Stücke wie Baccchides und Menaechmi. Basiswissen zur römischen Komödie (Metrik, Sprache, Aufführungspraxis, Verhältnis zur griechischen Nea) wird ebenfalls vermittelt. Bei entsprechendem Interesse der Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer (und erhöhter Bereitschaft zur häuslichen Lektüre) können auch die Amphitryon-Versionen von Molière, Dryden, Kleist und Giraudoux kurz besprochen und mit Plautus verglichen werden.
