Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

We will work with written and audiovisual documents of various types, both written and oral, in order to expand and deepen our lexical, grammatical and stylistic knowledge and skills on the one hand and to work systematically on the various types of text on the other. In particular, we will work on writing narrative and argumentative texts and taking minutes.
The grammar programme includes the following topics: Time concord, indirect speech, relative clauses, negation, interrogative and imperative clauses and personal pronouns in interrogative and imperative clauses.

Students will be required to give short oral presentations on a specific topic.

As the course is student-centred, most activities will take place in groups and will alternate with teacher lectures and online work.

Assessment and permitted materials

Continuous examination ("examination immanence"): Regular attendance (maximum of three absences per semester - medical certificate required if you do not attend an exam!
2 written examinations (one in the middle of the semester, one at the end of the semester), one oral examination at the end of the semester.
Monolingual dictionary allowed for the tests related to written production, dictionary forbidden for the listening comprehension test and for the grammar exercises given in the exams

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

B2 level language skills
Each skill block (1.grammar, 2.written production, 3.oral skills) must be positive at the end of the semester for the student to be able to move on to the next course.
If, for example, the written production block (writing narrative or argumentative texts) is not positive at the end of the semester, this negative result cannot be compensated for by a positive mark in another block. The student will not have a make-up exam either; they will have to repeat the entire course and sit the exams the following semester.

Examination topics

First exam session (mid-semester):
- Grammar exercises related to the programme studied during the semester.
- Listening comprehension activity
- Writing a narrative text in the past tense.

Second examination session (at the end of the semester):
- Grammar exercises related to the programme studied during the semester.
- Writing a review of an informative video
- Writing an opinion on a given press article
- Conversation on general topics
