Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The seminar is an advanced introduction to Cultural Studies. It deals with discourse-shaping concepts and theories in the wake of the cultural turn in the humanities and social sciences. The reading comprises canonical texts of the German-speaking Kulturwissenschaften, of the Anglo-Saxon Cultural Studies and of the French cultural theory, such as Sigmund Freud, Clifford Geertz, Michel Foucault, Roland Barthes and others. These texts are provided in a seminar reader. In each seminar session, small groups of two to three students introduce one to two texts which are then discussed by the whole class.
