Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This course aims at familiarising MEd students with research into literature in the EFL classroom (based on a fairly broad understanding of “literature”), with a focus on both theoretical principles and research methods.
At the end of this term, students will have learnt to
• reflect on the purposes of reading literature in the classroom
• rethink the role of the reader / learner in the EFL classroom
• learn to think carefully about data and research designs
• and become acquainted with quantitative and qualitative research methods and what they can tell us about readers, reading and the reading materials

Assessment and permitted materials

You will be expected to
• develop a small research project in the course of this term, for which you will write two smaller and one longer assignment
• read short texts or watch videos which will be posted on moodle in preparation for each class, prepare small tasks like note-taking
• participate in in-class discussions
Presence and participation in the online meetings are mandatory. You can have two absences. Please make sure you bring yourselves up to date on tasks and readings and visit moodle regularly for that purpose.
