Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this course, we will develop research questions for teaching Canadian and Postcolonial Studies the EFL classroom. Discussion topics will include Canada as postcolonial settler colony, Canadian literatures and memory cultures. The seminar features expert contributions on teaching Canada in the EFL classroom and a guest lecture on notions of ‘Canada’. Reading materials and case studies include Trey Anthony’s "Da Kink in My Hair" and Thomas King’s "The Inconvenient Indian".
Assessment and permitted materials
You will be expected to
• prepare one short multimodal presentation to share with your colleagues
• post three written assignments in the course of the term
• read short texts or watch videos which will be posted on moodle in preparation for each class
• participate in synchronous and asynchronous exchange and discussion
Presence and participation in the online meetings is mandatory. You can have one absence (since these are double classes). Please make sure you watch the recordings of any session you have missed and bring yourselves up to date on tasks and readings.
