Aims, contents and method of the course

This course aims to support students while writing their MEd theses in language education or linguistics. More specifically, students will be able to
- present their individual MEd theses topics (written and oral formats)
- discuss and provide peer-feedback on MEd theses projects and/or relevant research methods
- review / fine-tune areas of academic writing and research methodology

Assessment and permitted materials

THis class is based on continuous assessment. Specific assessed elements are:
A) Active participation, including peer-review and discussion of fellow students' presentations, plus short online tasks: 20 points
B) Presentation of a key point of MEd thesis (theory or methodology): 40 points
C) written assignment (depending on stage of MEd either proposal or extract of thesis) 40 points

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Attendance is obligatory (max 1 absence - as class is semi-blocked). Elements B) and C) outlined above need to be submitted/presented on time
Grades
Sehr gut (very good): 90-100
Gut (good): 80-89
Befriedigend (satisfactory): 70-79
Genügend (pass): 60-69
Nicht Genügend (fail): 0-59

Examination topics

There is no sit-down exam. Understanding of research and research methodologies in language education and linguistics (as focused on in the MEd) is required to pass this course.
