The course will then closely and theoretically focus on changing historical and ideological concepts of identity from Victorianism/Realism to Modernism to Postmodernism. Discussing the respective periods we will practically apply the theories to an analysis of texts (novel, poetry) and films. In regard to the course's title "Quests for Identity" we will trace this issue on multiple levels of analysis: narrative structure, plot, style, representations of concepts of identity (ideological, historical, gender class etc), of development,of the quest itself.
