Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course encompasses substantive work within the field of cultural studies and an intensive examination of developments in cultural theory. It examines the challenge of recent debates about identity and difference; and considers their relation to central questions of gender, sexuality, identity, ethnicity and globalisation in the realm of popular culture. It gives particular attention to the theoretical interventions of postmodernism, post-strucutalism, feminism and post-colonial theory. In considering these areas, the course gives particular attention to recent developments within the fields of feminism,'post-feminism', sexual politics and queer theory; globalisation, diaspora, cultural hybridity and postcolonial theory; as well as consumerism, consumption and identity.
