Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture is the last in a series dealing with word structure (lexicology). It will investigate various approaches to the description of lexical meaning, e.g. structural semantics, prototype theory, cognitive linguistics and will also relate the semantic structure of simple and complex lexical items to each other. Major areas that will be covered are lexical fields and lexical relations, types of linguistic meaning, the relationship between meaning and reference.
