Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this class, we are going to investigate into cultural processes and products that engender a sense of British identity/-ies. Our sources will be all kinds of media discourses, such as film and TV, popular music or politics. We will be looking at nationalism in the UK, at multicultural versus racist notions of Britishness, and at signs and significations of Britishness (or is it Englishness?) such as St George's Day and the Union Jack.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
This class aims at using methods and insights from Cultural Studies to research into the phenomenon of national identities.
