Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course offers students an introduction to key concepts and text types from a wide range of professional contexts, including economics, business, marketing, human resources, architecture and design. This course has been designed as Part 1 of the ESP module and thus is based on the assumption that participants will complete all parts of the module.
Assessment and permitted materials
Semester grades will be based on continuous assessment (student participation in class, oral presentation) and a written final exam.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The overall aim of this course is to develop students' expertise and to increase their self-confidence in dealing with specialist texts, with an emphasis on analyzing and, partly,
producing relevant text types. By the end of this course students should have developed strategies for dealing with texts from unfamiliar content areas. The skills acquired will be of use to future ESP teachers (e.g. at "BHS" schools) as well as for students who intend to use English in a professional context other than teaching.
