Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
The course will deal with Australian national stereotypes and the way they are disseminated in short fiction and films. What character-types were regarded as typically Australian and in what way are these types deconstructed and re-evaluated in modern texts? What themes are frequently addressed? In what way does the Aboriginal population feature in Australian literature and film? And how is the Australian landscape portrayed and marketed abroad? We will also discuss how these texts might be used in the classroom (some of them have been recommended for use in secondary education).
