Graphic narratives engage in complex questions and touch every imaginable subject matter: identity&sexuality, racism&inequality, history&politics. In this CMA class students will be introduced to the specifics rules that inform the multimodal medium comics and investigate how this hybrid medium addresses complex topics.
During this course students will receive an introduction into various genres of anglophone comics and critically discuss and analyze the realities mediated and constructed in these comics. Analytical approaches will be based on semiotics, psychoanalytical theory, gender studies, queer theory and postcolonial studies.
