Aims, contents and method of the course

What does it mean to be a man, to look and behave like a man in Anglophone film? This course will consider, critique, reformulate and debate the numerous ways masculinity, as a conceptual category, has been presented in films and television series such as Fight Club, Mad Max Fury Road, 300, The Godfather, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Starship Troopers and others. Students will learn technical film terminology as well as how to apply film analysis as a tool for their future studies. The course will boast an interactive, pragmatic approach that emphasizes practical skills that can be used by the students in their academic and professional careers.

Assessment and permitted materials

There will be weekly presentations on the films as well as feedback reports for the other students. Students will write a paper at the end of the semester.
