Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This course analyses a range of moving images from and about Ireland created over a period that spans from Lumiere’s 1897 footage of Dublin city streets to the Northern Irish countryside locations for HBO’s "A Game of Thrones" (2011). Using examples of indigenous productions and foreign-made films and TV programmes, the course explores key debates about the projection of Ireland’s image through movies, TV and now its globalized Internet presence. The seminar will involve viewing audio-visual material, reading and applying critical theory and understanding the cultural history of Ireland.
