The lecture introduces students in the B.ed. program to cultural theories from the Anglophone world, focusing on their use for the analysis of popular cultural texts of various genres and media. It provides insight into the field of contemporary cultural studies, introducing possible definitions of culture and different approaches and methods of cultural analysis.
The lecture course offers a broad overview regarding the theoretical and practical/analytical level of analysis of various cultural texts and media, with a thematic focus on Anglophone popular culture; and in-depth practice of your analytical competence. The final time segment of each lecture is devoted to practice!

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

In the course of this lecture, students develop their knowledge of appropriate methods, concepts, and vocabulary for analyzing various forms and media of representation (verbal/written, images, audiovisual texts, digital media), especially regarding popular cultural expression; also, they deepen their sense for the historical and cultural contexts of aesthetic products (transcultural competence).
