Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The objectives of this course are to prepare students for the "Schulpraktikum" by focusing on the diverse roles and tasks of the EFL teacher, the basic concepts of CLT, lesson planning, classroom management and practical teaching techniques, as well as observation criteria.
Core content:
- Teaching reading
- Teaching speaking
- Teaching writing
- Teaching grammar
Students will be expected to observe and teach at school.
Methods: group interaction, discussions, lecturer input, observation, team teaching

Assessment and permitted materials

- teaching activity lesson plan 18%
- observation report 7 %
- teaching the language skills/system (3 out of the following 4): reading, speaking, writing, grammar 16% each
- concluding reflection 10%
- participation in class and in e-learning activities, HW assignments, online assignments, discussions 17%
- language issues/not complying with formal aspects 20%

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Requirements ("zwingend vorgeschriebene Leistungen"): you are expected to:
1) plan and teach a lesson at the school of your mentor (team-teaching)
2) observe a lesson taught by your peers and write a report for your course portfolio (peer-observation)
3) submit a course portfolio (separate instructions)
4) participate actively in the class / in online sessions and hand in the assignments as well as be active in the forum
5) attend class regularly (max. 2 absences).
