Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The objective of this hands-on course is to provide an overview of technology enhanced language teaching and learning in the ELT classroom and to enable participants to use several tools from multimedia technologies and virtual learning environments (i.e. Moodle) in the context of ELT. The course will also deal with current models and practical uses of technology in education. Specifically, I will address practices such as internet-based projects, gamification, using collaborative digital tools, etc. All this will be applied to the teaching of different language skills or specific language aspects (i.e. grammar, vocabulary). Therefore, participants will explore and experience different tools and will create lesson plans using a variety of technological tools and their respective methodologies.

Assessment and permitted materials

Continuous assessment: participation in class and online discussions based on the reading of essential literature and other assignments, such as exploring and evaluating technologies. There will also be individual and group assignments such as short presentations and lesson plans and a final reflection paper on selected aspects of the course.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Participants in this course will be required to identify and critically analyse digital media and resources, websites and other technologies for a variety of teaching contexts. This understanding of the use and integration of technology in the ELT classroom will allow them to plan their own teaching. The assessment criteria will be explained in detail at the beginning of the course.

Examination topics

The required literature, digital material development, lesson plans and the reflection paper.

Reading list

Required and suggested readings will be announced on the Moodle platform.
