Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims and contents
The course aims at developing a reflective and critical understanding of English Language Teaching in students through a consideration of the guiding principles underlying professional ELT. Within each of these principles, a selection of thematic areas will be discussed.

The key principles of ELT discussed will cover:

- Principles of technology-enhanced EFL teaching
(topics: integrating New Media in language teaching)
- Principles of research-based teaching
(topics: the relevance of ‘theory’ for teaching practice; EFL teaching as a profession)
- Principles of accountability in teaching
(topics: connections between the CEFR, educational standards, ELP & EPOSTL, E8 standards testing and the standardized Matura)

- Principles of inclusive teaching
(topics: multilingual in the ELT classroom, individual learner differences, inclusion of neurodiverse learners)

In addition, the course will encourage in-depth engagement by students with a range of current approaches to EFL teaching. This will include:
- Presenting, trying out and evaluating selected approaches to EFL teaching
- Discussion of the ‘post-method era’
