There will be no class on October 31! To make up for the lost time, the sessions on November 21, November 28 and December 5 will last two hours instead of 1,5 hours (no academic quarter in these three sessions!!). Please bear this in mind when registering for this course!

Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
It is the aim of this course to provide students with a basic toolkit for analysing literary texts. There will be a couple of introductory units, in which I will give you a brief theoretical background and review the basic concepts of literary analysis (narrative techniques, genre, point of view etc.) and critical approaches to literature you are going to need for your presentations and your portfolio. After the few introductory sessions, we will discuss selected literary texts from different genres and periods from various critical angles.Methods: Lecture / teacher input, class discussions, student presentations
Assessment and permitted materials
Active class participation, oral presentation in groups of 4-5 students, portfolio to be submitted at the end of February.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Students will be assessed on the basis of a point-based system. Students have to score at least 60 points to pass the course.Oral presentation: 25 points

Everything coverd in class (incl. teacher input, student presentations, and classroom discussions).
Reading list
Apart from some poems and short stories (which will be provided for you), we will also read "Oroonoko" by Aphra Behn, "The Moonstone" by Wilkie Collins, "Othello" by William Shakespeare, "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley. All of the longer texts are available at the bookstore "Facultas am Campus" and should be purchased there so that all students have the same editions of the texts!!!
