Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
This is an interactive seminar-type course for students embarking on, or already working on, their linguistic MA thesis. The seminar will give participants the opportunity to discuss not only the progress of their own work but also issues arising from it of a more general theoretical or practical interest. The aim of the course is twofold: first, to get to know and discuss the projects of fellow students and second, to consolidate the research skills necessary for an extended research report. The seminar also provides an opportunity for networking and mutual support among students at this stage of their studies.Course components include introductory sessions, project presentations/presentations of work in progress, all-class discussions of projects/work in progress, and two written assignments.
Assessment and permitted materials
This course will be held on site if at all possible. The aim of the course is twofold: first, to get to know and discuss the projects of fellow students; and, secondly, to consolidate the research skills necessary for an extended research dissertation. The seminar also provides an opportunity for networking and mutual support among students at this (potentially more 'lonely') stage of their studies.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Course components will be adapted to the interests of the participants. These may include presentations by the tutor, individual presentations of work in progress, suitable learning exercises, or all-class discussions of projects/work in progress. There will be a final assignment, the nature of which will arise from the work of the seminar.
Examination topics
The minimum requirements for passing the course include regular class attendance, oral presentations with discussion, active participation in class discussion, reading, and assignments. The Written Assignment will be due on 28 February 2022.
Reading list
Readings and other materials will emerge during the course.
