Information
Aims, contents and method of the course
In this course, we will try to shed light on the different forms of intertextuality, that are to be found in the vast field of songwriting. We will discuss the origin of folk songs in the oral tradition and how content was changed to fit the time and place of performance. We will also discuss 20th century music and contemporary songwriters and the abundance of cross-references, references to literary works and other forms of intertextuality to be found in this post-modern, shape-shifting beast that is rock music.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The course shall try to provide an overview of how intertextual references play an important in role in modern songwriting and how this connects to a millennia-old oral tradition.
Examination topics
The different topics shall be analyzed in oral presentations, moderated discussions, and three essays
