Aims, contents and method of the course
Do women and men differ in their language use? Or: Reflects a specific language use of women and men gender socialization? How does gender in the language itself come forward? ...
Assessment and permitted materials
In the review process the following elements are playing a part: attendance, active participation, homework assignments, presentations and a final paper.
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
Central to this course is the study of gender, language and language use from a linguistic perspective. Besides an extensive theoretical approach to this exciting branch of the linguistic, there is a linguistic analysis of natural spoken language planned too.
Examination topics
Reading: In preparation for each meeting students should read articles from the reader.
Homework: A number of assignments during class or as preparation.
Presentation: Each student is expected to take a short oral presentation on an article (or more).
Presentation seminar paper: Each student has to present her / his paper topic.
Seminar paper: Each student is expected to write a seminar paper about one of the topics discussed during the lecture.
