Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

This seminar pertains to the handling of quantitative data in linguistics. It will be structured around specific research interests of the participating students. The teacher will present relevant electronic infrastructures on relevant research topics (e.g. corpus infrastructures) as well as statistical approaches with which the collected data can be empirically evaluated and software packages used for this purpose (especially Microsoft Excel, R).

Assessment and permitted materials

Active participation during the semester and submission of a term paper at the end of the semester.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course is continuously assessed. The grade will consist of the following components:

- active participation in the discussions & contributions during the semester: 40%

- written term paper: 60%

Examination topics

The topic of the term paper should be discussed with the teacher at the beginning of the semester.

Reading list

Literature recommendations are made on the basis of the topic desired by the students.
