Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Particularly in the context of studies in the humanities, it is important to gain practical work experience during one's studies - not only to "brighten up" one's resume, but also to gain an insight into the various fields of work that can open up to graduates of the chosen course of study. Often enough, students of Finno-Ugristics are asked what they can do with such a degree. The project / internship should provide answers.

This year's project / internship offers the opportunity to get to know three possible fields of activity. The participants of the courses can therefore, within the framework of the project / internship,...

-) ... deal with the subject area of communication and PR in science and participate in the development of a contemporary public relations strategy of the Department of Finno-Ugristics at the University of Vienna. Students will be involved in the editorial design of the social media channels as well as the department blog in order to communicate the work and especially the various study opportunities and diverse content of the Department of Finno-Ugristics at the University of Vienna to the outside world in a broadly effective manner. The work has to be done during the summer semester, the participants* will receive the certificate at the end of the semester (end of June.)

-) ... gain first experiences in an editorial office and work/write for the Hungarian-language online newspaper www.rolunk.at, for which Hungarian language skills from a level of B2 are required.
The work has to be done in the course of the summer semester, the participants will receive the certificate at the end of the semester (end of June).
Alternatively, participants can work during the summer months (July / August) as part of an "individual internship" at the newspaper; participants will receive the certificate at the end of August - the internship certificate will be issued by Dr. Erika Erlinghagen.

-) ... participate in the organization and holding of the Congressus XIII Internationalis Fenno-Ugristarum (CIFU 13) - the International Finno-Ugrist Congress: https://cifu13.univie.ac.at/en/
The congress will take place in Vienna from August 22 to 27, 2022 - participants who want to work at the congress have to complete an "individual internship" in August; participants will receive the certificate at the end of August - the internship certificate will be issued by Prof. Johanna Laakso.

In all three cases, attendance at the first session of the project / internship on March 8, 2022 is mandatory. Those who cannot attend this session but would like to participate in the project / internship - either in the regular course duration or in the context of an individual internship at CIFU 13 or at Rólunk.at - should contact the course director in advance by mail: erika.erlinghagen@univie.ac.at.
