Aims, contents and method of the course

The aim of the course is to familiarize the students with the central aspects of phonetics and the phonology of Hungarian.
Requirements: Background in linguistics ("Introduction to Linguistics" or equivalent knowledge) is required, knowledge of Hungarian is a plus.
Topics:
Introduction to phonetics: basics of articulation, phonetic description of the Hungarian sound segments.
The subject matter of phonology.
Vowels: classification, vowel harmony, length alternations.
Consonants: classification, consonant rules.
The syllable.
Stress and intonation.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written test

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Minimum requirement: 50% of the maximum number of points at the exam.
Assessment criteria:
90-100% = Sehr gut
75% = Gut
60% = Befriedigend
50% = Genügend
