Continuous assessment of course work

Anrechnung in anderen Studienrichtungen (zB Afrikanistik, Anglistik, Geschichte, Politikwissenschaft, etc.) is möglich. Studierenden sollten diese Angelegenheit mit ihrem SPL kontrollieren.

CEEPUS und ERASMUS Studierenden sind sehr willkommen.

Afrikaans kann auch als AE, Mitbeleger und Interessemodul genommen werden.

Während des Sommersemesters 2017 wird "Afrikaans Sprache und Kultur im Kontext" voraussichtlich angeboten werden wo Geschichte, Kultur, Literatur und Filmen zur Sache kommen. Der Ziel ist, Studierenden im WS eine Übersicht zu geben über Afrikaans (Grammatik, Entwicklung von Sprache und Land) und in SS zu konzentrieren auf Südafrikanischen Kultur (Geschichte, Bevölkerungen, Afrikaansen Literaturentwicklung und Filmen).

Diese Kurs in Afrikaans besteht also aus zwei Abteilungen aber können unabhängig von einander belegt werden - also, der eine ist keine Voraussetzung zur anderen. Ich empfohlen Studierenden aber, wenn möglich, die beide Kursen zu absolvieren, einem vollständigen Überblick zu erwerben.

Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

These lectures consist of an introduction to the Afrikaans language, culture and grammar as one of the 11 official languages of South Africa. Lectures, serving as an overview, not only address practical facts, but also allow students to exercise new language abilities. Reading texts will concentrate on everyday situations, revealing culture as well as interesting South African myths.

Assessment and permitted materials

The final mark will be a combination of attendance, coursework as well as written and oral examinations. Oral exams at the end of each semester may be taken in Afrikaans, German, Dutch or Englisch.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

To introduce beginners without prior knowledge of Afrikaans to one of the world's youngest Germanic languages and literatures, to develop basic translation skills and to present an orientation to the regional and cultural environments of South Africa. Tuition language is Afrikaans (in the initial phases with concise summaries in German or English).

Examination topics

The lectures formally address grammar issues and are meant to assist students to a good reading ability, a understanding of language structures as well as providing them with a springboard to speaking the language. Interactive exercises (often combined with cultural facets) provide the opportunity to actively practice the newly acquired knowledge and to develop a basic vocabulary. An e-learning program provides further assistance.

Reading list

A prescribed workbook is mandatory. This is distributed towards the beginning of the semester.
The use of a Afrikaans-German dictionary or Afrikaans-Dutch dictionary or Afrikaans-English dictionary is recommended.
