Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

The course wants to give an introduction (also with the help of pictures and film excerpts) to the history of the Commedia dell'Arte and its characters or masks. In addition, we will analyze the diverse influences of this phenomenon of Italian theater on the theater tradition in Europe. This is also commented on and explained using a series of text examples from a comparative perspective. Above all, the influences on Spanish, French, English, and German-speaking theater will be taken into account.

Ergo: The course can be particularly interesting and useful for Romanists, Germanists, Anglists, and also for students of theater studies.
