Aims, contents and method of the course

Reading of sumerian hymns to gods.

Assessment and permitted materials

the texts will be read in class; students are required to prepare for this; in addition, they will give short presentations on pertinent topics; students will take two written exams, one at mid-term, one at the end of the term.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course's aim is to improve the students' knowledge of Sumerian grammar and of the cuneiform script and to introduce them to Sumerian literature and literary language. Overview of critical approaches to editing Mesopotamian literary texts.
