Aims, contents and method of the course
Assessment and permitted materials
No final examination, but see under "Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab" (Minimum requirements and criteria of evaluation).
Minimum requirements and assessment criteria
The minimum requirement for a positive evaluation is constant active collaboration (missing thrice at most is permitted), an oral report complete with handout, and the writing of a seminar paper (including a possible consultation talk thereon) in the form of a paper on one aspect of humour in Ottoman poetry according to the rules of good scholarly practice (among other things: no plagiarism! acceptable linguistic and stylistic level! correct citing!). The collaboration includes research on a small scale and reports on it as well as discussion. Each partial accomplishment will be evaluated individually. The seminar paper (and possible consultation talk) will make up 60% of the evaluation, the oral report with handout and other collaboration 40% thereof.
Examination topics
Determining and interpreting humour in Ottoman poetry.
Reading list
Ambros, "Gülme, güldürme ve gülünc düsürme gereksinimlerinden dogan türler ve Osmanli edebiyatinda ironi" as introduction (will be sent); further literature will be named during the term.
