Aims, contents and method of the course

Humor and satire in Ottoman and Turkish Literature
Aims and contents: Halikarnas Balikcisi's life and work; the question of authenticity of texts re-written according to the needs of the Language Reform. Comparative reading of extracts in class.

Assessment and permitted materials

Regular attendance is mandatory, therefore see under "Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab" (Minimum requirements and criteria of evaluation).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The course has an exam-immanent character. Attendance is compulsory (3 absences will be tolerated). Students are expected to prepare and follow up the reading texts in an appropriate manner. Lack of preparation is considered an absence. Delivering papers is optional and is in lieu of text preparation for each class session. A BA thesis is due by the end of April. Detailed guidelines for writing this paper can be found on Moodle. Assessment scheme: text preparation 30%, discussion of literature 10% BA thesis 60%.

Reading, analyzing and contextualizing of Ottoman and Turkish satirical/humorous texts.
