Aims, contents and method of the course

This lecture provides basic knowledge of Modern Standard Arabic, which is the most widely spoken and universally accepted form of Arabic.
In the second semester written and spoken language competence will be reinforced through the study of grammar and related exercises as well as through the study of day-to-day situations. Students will be encouraged to take part in little role plays and to develop their own texts.

Assessment and permitted materials

Written exam.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The exam will be devided into four parts: a) grammar (100 points) b) translation (50 points) c) free text (30 points). Students will pass the exam after having gained at least 90 points altogether (regardless in which part).

Examination topics

Based on grounding which was provided in the first semester the solid basic competence will be developped further. We will focus on the conjugation of the verb in the past, the subjunctive, derivation of the verb. Topics for little dialogues will be: visiting a friend, at the market, learning a language, letter writting...

Reading list

We will use the textbook "Arabisch Intensiv", published by the LSI Bochum. Further materials will be provided online (Moodle).
