Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Aims and contents: Getting to know the rhetorical elements (Belâgat) in Ottoman poetry.

Assessment and permitted materials

No final examination, but see under "Mindestanforderungen und Beurteilungsmaßstab" (Minimum requirements and criteria of evaluation).

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

The minimum requirement for a positive evaluation is constant active collaboration (missing thrice is the maximum permitted), an oral report complete with handout, and the writing of a seminar paper (including a possible consultation talk thereon) on the use of rhetorical elements in the poetry of an Ottoman poet according to the rules of good scholarly practice (among other things: no plagiarism! Acceptable linguistic and stylistic level! Correct citing!). The collaboration includes research on a small scale and reports on it as well as discussion. Each partial accomplishment will be evaluated individually. The seminar paper (and possible consultation talk) will make up 60 % of the evaluation, the oral report with handout and other collaboration 40 % thereof.
Each student will choose a different poet as topic for his/her seminar paper.
