Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

Discussion of various types of documents, reading published sample documents first in Arabic printed characters, gradually from handwritten copies.
Oral student papers.

Assessment and permitted materials

Oral papers of specified length and on a specified date, written handout; student participation, preparation of sample texts.
Missing three times is tolerated.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Ability to determine document type based on content and formulas; knowledge of relevant secondary literature.
Ottoman Paleography and Diplomatic I required.
Mark dependent on attendance (10%), active participation (20%), oral paper (40%), translation and comment of a published document at the end of term (30%)
