Information

Aims, contents and method of the course

We will read pre-modern Arabic language texts from Islami/Arabic traditions (following the chrestomathy of Brünnow/Fischer): a Sufi text, and also one on epistemology.

Assessment and permitted materials

Preparing the tasks for the classroom sessions; active participation; writing a presentation out of a list available at the beginning of winter term and a paper.

Minimum requirements and assessment criteria

Quality of participation and the papers presented, understanding of the texts to be discussed. Good knowledge of Arabic and English.

The rules of the code of conduct of the University of Vienna are to be followed.
